Although enzymes have always existed and decades of research on enzymes is
available, it is only recently that the term "enzyme" has been introduced to the
general public and enzyme supplements have become more commonplace.
One of the most common uses of enzyme supplements is to aid in digestion.
Without enzymes, food cannot be fully digested and the nutrients found in food
cannot reach the cells of the body. Standard cooking and processing methods
destroy the essential enzymes found naturally in raw foods. Therefore, the vast
majority of foods people consume are completely devoid of enzymes. It is
essential to supplement with enzymes to replace the enzymes destroyed by cooking
and processing.
So what do supplemental digestive enzymes do? Supplemental enzymes:
- Aid in digestion.
- Increase the body's utilization of protein, carbohydrate and
other vital nutrients.
- Increase the nutritional value of foods.
- Ensure that nutrients in food are available to the cells of
the body.
To clearly demonstrate what enzyme supplements can do to benefit digestion
and absorption of nutrients, researchers conducted a series of experiments using
a computer-controlled model of the digestive system. These experiments compared
the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins under perfect digestive conditions
and impaired digestive conditions (70% reduced function), tested with and
without the aid of an Infinity2 plant based digestive enzyme blend.
Graph 1- The total digestion of carbohydrates is increased nearly 4 fold in
the small intestine with the plant based digestive enzymes even under perfect
conditions. The total digestion of carbohydrates is increased about 7 fold in
the small intestine with the plant based digestive enzymes under impaired
conditions.
Graph 2: The digestion of proteins is increased with the plant based
digestive enzymes under perfect conditions. The digestion of proteins increases
significantly in the small intestine with plant based digestive enzymes under
impaired conditions.
The results of the study clearly show that plant based digestive enzymes
improve the digestibility and bioavailability of proteins and carbohydrates in
the small intestine. The improvement is significant not only under impaired
digestive conditions, but also in healthy human digestion. It is particularly
noteworthy that the level of protein digestion under impaired digestive
conditions with enzymes is nearly equal to the level of protein digestion under
perfect digestive conditions without enzymes.
This research shows that Infinity2's plant based digestive enzymes
substantially increase the level of digestion in the small intestine and the
bioavailability of proteins and carbohydrates. These results not only validate
the use of digestive enzymes in cases of impaired digestion, but also clearly
demonstrate that most healthy adults can substantially benefit by using a
quality Infinity2 digestive enzyme supplement.
